The premiere was reported as being attended by 15,000 people, including international celebrities, civic and industrial leaders, newspapermen, and five governors. In early October, 1934 the film had a special White House screening, attended by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In the midst of the Depression, a young couple flee the city to a farm, where they and others establish a collective. "The Man with the Cast Iron Stomach" (which opponents loved to jump on) was an American wrestling star who debuted in 1953, held numerous world championships and reached the height of his popularity in the 1960s and '70s. IPS, 8" X 10", n.p., n.y. [ca. 1960]. Very good. Minor tape stain at each corner. A handsome, smiling bare-chested portrait of Gomez in his heyday, inscribed in blue ballpoint at lower right "to Donald / Buena Suerte [Good Luck] / Pepper Gomez." Ink rather light, thus contrast is fair only. Still, an attractive piece and an uncommon autograph.
