Exterior shows scuffing and spotting along with edge and corner bumps/wear. The front board has some light spots near the upper left corner, one of being rectangular which is typically caused by old price label. The internal binding is good, no hinge cracks noted. The only markings found in the book is on the front end page and rear pastedown, which has the original owners name stamped, F. K. Thompson, who was one of the vice presidents for the Odd Fellows. The exterior cloth shows spotting but the interior pages are clean. There is no publication date listed but some of the descriptions on the various homes show the latest date of 1911. For example: page 65 describes the home in Springfield Ohio and states "There are at present, June 1, 1911, fifty-one brothers, thirty-seven sisters, eighty-eight boys and sixty-six girls, making a total of two hundred and forty-two residents.". CA 1911.…

Zustand: Sehr gut. Zustand: Sehr gut | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | Leonab finds herself a foreigner in the town of Milsap. She knows that she has been sent to this point in time to share a message, but first she must learn what that message is. Initially mistaken for a mental case, she meets the son of a local minister and is introduced to our American culture of inefficiencies and inconsistencies. Having come from a simpler time, she is bewildered by our gadgets and customs. Leonab observes the peculiarities of our language and society. She engages in political dialogs with the in-wing and out-wing groups. As she interacts with individuals and groups, she ponders the weighty issues of our day in light of her own values and beliefs before finally proclaiming the message she was called to deliver. The unfolding story brings a fresh perspective on our culture and the version of Christianity Leonab encounters in Milsap. Join her as she reads the scriptures for the first time, finds Spirit-filled insight, and ultimately delivers a message that the lampstand in America desperately needs to embrace.…

Wolfe, who asked them to write about home, friends and family, the war or whatever came into their minds. THe results were so moving and impressive that Wolfe had 2,000 copies printed at his own expense, while all the profits from Doubleday's edition went directly to the men ; "We cannot state too emphatically that this books is presented not as a literary effort but as a series of social documents."--foreword ; "If a foreigner should ask me what Americans were like in 1946, I would hand him this book. Naturally it is not the whole story. It is only the story of a fairly small group of young men among those most hurt in body and mind by the accidents of war. But somehow, putting down the war experiences that affected them most, these young men have uncovered a much larger segment of the reality of our time than they themselves seem to have been aware of."--John Dos Passos ; details of each serviceman and his unit included ; authors include: Joe V.
