He wrote a number of religious tracts and published a book, A Persuasive To Unity, which he published in 1874. At his death, Bancroft established a trust fund to secure the free circulation of this book among Quakers. this copy has a printed presentation sticker inside the front cover "Presented by Joseph Bancroft Wilmington Delaware" The book includes a reprinting of Scottish Quaker, Robert Barclay's Universal Love; Universal Love Considered and Established upon its Right Foundation, being a Serious Enquiry how far Charity may and ought to be extended to persons of different Judgments in Matters of Religion, and whose Principles among the several Sects of Christians do most naturally lead to that due Moderation required.
