Cuban Magazine (Havana, 1935-1957) was published in Cuba by the Directorate of Culture of the Ministry of Education, was primarily dedicated to disseminating the activities of Cuban writers in the field of essays and criticism, its objective was to continue the tradition of the "Bimestre Magazine" and "Magazine of Cuba", to reflect the Cubanness. In the first issue of the Cuban Magazine published works referring to literary, linguistic, philosophical, aesthetic, historical and plastic arts issues, occasionally poems and stories appeared. He kept the fixed sections "Books", in which the latest publications appeared both in Cuba and abroad, and "Facts and comments", in which cultural events were reviewed, conferences were reproduced and, in general, news was offered of the cultural field. Volumes 22 and 29 were dedicated, respectively, to the figures of Miguel de Cervantes and José Martí. The magazine was absent from the volume from July 1951 to December 1952. It reappeared with volume 30, October-December 1956. It was edited, from this number, by the National Institute of Culture of the Ministry of Education.

Four page handwritten letter in blue ink dated and signed by José María Chacón y Calvo, (Santa María del Rosario, Cuba, October 28, 1892 - El Vedado, Havana, Cuba, November 7, 1969) was the 6th Count of Casa Bayona. This internationally recognized Cuban scholar was a bibliophile, critic, essayist, historian, journalist, professor and diplomat, and also stood out as a great cultural promoter. During his life, in addition to making numerous contributions with his specific work as a creator and researcher, he also played a very important role in the Vice Presidency of the National Academy of Arts and Letters, as a Member of the Academy of History of Cuba, the Institute of Hispanic Culture, President of the Cuban Academy of Language and the Cuban Institute of Genealogy and Heraldry. He presided over the Literature Section of the Ateneo de La Habana, and was co-founder of the Cuban Folklore Society. He served as a contributor to the main newspapers and magazines of his time, and was a key element in the publication of the Revista de Educación. His work promoted the creation of the Revista Cubana and the Cuadernos de Cultura. His main contributions were related to the work of compilation, an example of which was his anthology called: The Hundred Best Cuban Poems, as well as the interpretation of the work of José María Heredia, which would be reflected in his selection and prologue of the collection of prose by said author, entitled Literary Reviews. He taught at the Chair of Cuban Literature, at the Catholic University of Villanueva, between 1946 and 1961. MSS8.
