A medieval Icelandic prose history recounting the lives and conflicts of the Norse earls of Orkney from the ninth to the early thirteenth century. The work consists of a historical narrative of the Orkney and Shetland islands and their relationships with other nations. The saga combines genealogical material, political history, voyages, feuds, and episodes of warfare. However, some sections of the work are now questioned by historians as to their likelihood.
