Fourth Edition. Good copy, professionally re-cased in a binding of half calf over marble boards, with raised bands and a gilt-tooled red leather label on the spine. Lower spine somewhat damp-damaged, with some flaking around the joints and bottom raised band. The text is unaffected by this damp, having somewhat foxed preliminary and final leaves, and an otherwise notably clean text -- showing only the faint marginal foxing and dust-dulling expected of age. Fifth Edition. Mistress Dods is a a character in St. Ronan's well. The real author is Christina Jane Johnstone. Original publisher's dull dark green cloth with paper label. The label is chipped and very warm and the canvas generally chipped and a bit soiled. The front end papers are much later. No half-title. A clean (some general foxing throughout), sound copy but not a handsome one. Spine bands worn and separating. Good copy in the original gilt-blocked cloth.
