Previous owner's purchase comments to the front end paper. The text itself is clean and tidy, if a little darkened. 160 by 95mm (6¼ by 3¾ inches). [viii], 1-206, i. pp Following a pamphlet by Sir William Coventry, Johnston published this work, which aimed to demonstrate that even if the Religious Orders were restored in England, the possessors of the church lands confiscated by Henry VIII could not be disturbed.

London: George Sawbridge, 1712. First published in 1686, and fairly uncommon, OCLC lists only one copy of the 1712 printing at the State Library of Victoria. It has the additional interest of having been owned by playwright Richard Brinsley Sheridan, and has his bookplate as well as his signature. The text-block of this massive work by a disciple of Hobbes is fine.

Original publisher's salmon colored paper wrappers printed in black with a loss along lower edge of front wrapper of Vol. I, No. I, and wear to the wrappers of all three issues for what is still a beautiful, complete set of the magazine. 1-48, [49]-96, [97]-144 pp. This influential, but short lived literary journal, the entire run being published between January and March of 1843, after which the venture ceased for financial reasons, would none the less contain the first printings of works by literary giants, including Elizabeth Barrett [Browning], Nathaniel Hawthorn, Edgar Allan Poe, John Greenleaf Whittier, et al.; Vol. I, No. I contained the first printing of "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe, which is widely considered a classic of the Gothic fiction genre, and one of Poe's most famous short stories; Vol. I, No. II and Vol. I, No. III also both contained first printings of work by Poe, including his poem "Lenore;" all issues illustrated with etchings and/or woodcuts printed in black; internally, all three issues are very clean and bright; housed in a collector's brown cloth chemise and matching slipcase. The condition of the magazines is VERY GOOD. RARE; and quite wonderful to hold and read the important works contained within, just as they were held and read back in 1843 when these works were originally released upon the world!

In manuscript: Where as we the subscribers Properties and Tenants in common of the first township in the third range of the Connecticut Reserve so called in the future to be known by the name of Campfield for the purpose of exporting a settlement and division of the same amongst the paid proprietors agreeable to each ones interest; prosperity therein, do covenant and agree each one for himself & to & with the ? manner following. That as early in the present spring and season of the year as the majority of said proprietor should think best they will send on the said township under the direction of Mr Nathaniel Church one of the proprietors in number of workmen not to exceed 14 together with a team & c. which workmen are to be employed until sometime in the fall of the year in surveying the township into lots roads & cutting roads, cleaning same land & improving it, & building 4 log houses & making improvements, & preparing time for mill or mills if said agent thinks best. In said improvements to be made in such manner as the agent thinks best for the proprietors & such houses with the lots & improvements of which they are made shall be and remain the proprietor in common in proportion to their interest in said township until a partition is made by the agreement of said proprietors, as majority of them. And all horses & oxen when turned & the price of the other property shall be which it costs, and an account of the dame shall be made & kept by the Clerk of said proprietors as soon as he can obtain the knowledge of the same. And all receivers of any property of the company shall deliver a copy of his acct. , accounting for said property to the clerk, whenever demanded by the clerk in performance to a resolve of said proprietors.
