Reprint of the second and enlarged edition. xii, 851pp. John Trapp (1601-1669) was an English preacher , best known for his commentaries on the bible. His works were characterised by quaint humour and profound scholarship, and are still read today. His works are quoted frequently by other religious writers. This volume on the New Testament is a reprint of the second edition, much enlarged, with a reprint of his 'Mellificium Theologicum', or the Marrow of Many Good Authors, added at the end of the book and with its own title page. We understand that the first edition was published in 1656. The book is bound in the original brown cloth covered board with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in good condition with shelf wear, soiling and staining on the boards. The corners are bumped with damage and a little loss. Pieces are missing from both ends of the spine and the titling on the spine is very worn. The cloth on the spine edges is split and there is an obvious home repair on the spine edges where a previous owner has used thread to either reinforce or reattach the boards. There is some lifting to the spine down the fore spine edge. The contents are in better condition, being tight and clean apart from a few small marks and stains. A few pages have pencil marks or a little underlining. There is some scattered light foxing although the two title pages are more heavily foxed and browned. The first of the title pages has a set of initials written above the publisher's details. There is a water stain running down the fore edge of the last few pages and some pages have creases across the top corner. The endpapers are split down the spine gutter and there is an inscription dated 1875 on the front free endpaper. There are probably a few other minor faults that have been missed. PLEASE NOTE: This is a large and heavy book and extra postage will be required for delivery outside the UK.
