Newly, expertly rebacked in black cloth with gilt lettering; original front and rear boards slightly edgeworn; lacks five leaves (70a-b, 88a-b, 247-48, 281-82, 329-30), but quality facsimiles of those leaves on appropriate vintage paper have been expertly and archivally tipped in. Tight and attractive later printing.

Very thick 8vo, rebound in older 1/2 green polished calf with black and blind-stamped spine; all edges marbled. Columbus, Ohio: Gilmore & Segner, 1866. Some foxing throughout, but still a very good(+) solid copy in an attractive binding.

Thick 8vo, pp. viii, [9]-763; engraved frontispiece, 13 wood-engraved plates; original full sheep, black morocco labels lettered in gilt on spine; some scuffing but generally a very good, sound copy. First published by subscription in 1857 the book went through a number of editions. This particular edition has more than 120 additional pages than the last listed by Wagner-Camp. Based on the information in the book on Minnesota it is safe to say that subsequent editions were regularly updated and that each superceded the last. See Graff 4462, Howes V-43, and Wagner-Camp 312.
