Illustrations (by various artists) in blue. Grey hammered parchment spine, gilt, pink paper boards, matching slipcase. A fine copy of a handsome book. Signed and inscribed by John Ryder. The "six on the black art", with excerpts from their works, are Balzac ("The Lost Illusions"), V.S. Naipaul ("The Mystic Masseur"), James Joyce ("Uysses"), Arnold Bennett ("Clayhanger"), Cervantes ("Don Quixote") and Benjamin Franklin ("Autobiography"). Illustrated by Margery Gill, Cynthia Abbott, Charles Mozley, Dick Hart, Don Higgins and Heather Copley respectively.
