About the book >.>.> The Overprinted Stamps Only three values of stamps were required to pay the tax, d, 1d, and 1/-, Stamps of these denominations from the current stock in the Post Office were used, overprinted with the words "WAR STAMP". The The overprinting was carried out on five dates, October 1918, January, April and October 1919 and in May 1920. Type was left assembled from October 1918 until after the October 1919 overprinting (known as the first setting) and it was then broken down and reset for the final overprinting in May 1920 (known as the second setting). The stamps were all on the paper with the "Multiple Crown C.A." watermark. Those used for the first overprinting were the %d and 1d, which had been delivered to the Crown Agents in February 1918, and the 1/- stamps, delivered in December 1912. The 1/- stamps were on the "Turner" paper, with narrow selvedges, whereas the other two values were on the "Howard" paper, with wider selvedges and rather smaller sheet size due to the shrinkage of the poorer quality paper. These dimensional variations were the caus.
