Ch?i-keng tông) in Amoy (Xiamen), is a major early dictionary of the Amoy dialect compiled by the American Reformed Church missionary Rev. John Van Nest Talmage (1819-1892), known in Chinese as ???. Talmage, who worked in Xiamen for more than four decades, was one of the most influential promoters of the Amoy vernacular and its Pe?h-?e-j? Romanization. Written entirely in vernacular Romanized Amoy, the dictionary contains over 6,300 characters arranged alphabetically, with definitions and usage examples, together with radical indexes and supplementary corrections. Published two years after Talmage's death, it served as an important foundation for William Campbell's later ?-mn?g-im Sin J?-tián (??????, 1913), the most comprehensive dictionary of the Amoy vernacular in the early twentieth century.
