Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - By the middle of the nineteenth century, the North-West Passage, a trade route from the Atlantic to the Pacific, had been sought for centuries without success. The Franklin expedition of 1845 became the latest victim, and Irish naval officer Sir Robert John Le Mesurier McClure (1807-73) took part in the attempts to ascertain its fate. His ship, H.M.S. Investigator, spent the years 1850-4 in the Arctic, and in the course of their search for the lost expedition, the crew discovered the North-West Passage. Upon his return to England, following the loss of the Investigator to pack ice, McClure handed over his journals to author and fellow officer Sherard Osborn (1822-75), who prepared this narrative of the pioneering expedition. First published in 1856, the work remains a compelling account of Arctic exploration, revealing how McClure and his men survived four forbidding winters.

The film first aired live on March 25, 1965 on the BBC program "The Largest Theatre in the World." INSCRIBED by screenwriter Pinter on that day: "March 25th 1965 / To Peter Colin Holder / Congratulations on being born! / Hooray! / Lots of Love / Harold Pinter." The story of an industrial tycoon who comes to believe that his new secretary, second wife, and brother-in-law are all conspiring against him, to the point where his health is affected by the conviction. Blue titled wrappers, lacking the rear wrapper. Front wrapper present but detached, with a credit for screenwriter Pinter. The Níti-Nighanduva is a Sinhalese law book which mainly deals with marriage and inheritance laws. The kingdom of Kandy was an independent monarchy in the central portion of the island Ceylon, absorbed into the British empire in 1815. The Sinhalese writer Pa'nabokke Banda, President of Dumbara, obtained a copy of the original English manuscript, had it transcribed and made a rough translation. In 1876 Le Mesurier seized the ms, retranslated it and recast it into its present form. Both the transcription and the translation are found in this work. Rare. Provenance: Frederic Austin Hayley with his bookplate on front pastedown. Author of "A treatise of the laws and customs of the Sinhalese" Colombo 1923.
