Here is another of the books I am listing among a thematic group featuring maritime history. This one, a vintage one at that, is titled: Steamboat Lore on the Penobscot An Informal Story of Steamboating in Maine s Penobscot Region, pictorially presented by John M. Richardson, with a Foreword by Ben Ames Willams. This large hard cover book (7 ¾ x 11 inches, 155 pages) was apparently self-published by the Author, dated 1944 and the Third Edition. It was printed at the Kennebec Journal Print Shop in Augusta, Maine. As noted on the flap of the dust jacket: Over 160 pictures of the grand old boats are presented, in many instances, tracing them from their prime to their spectacular ends. The book is bound in royal blue cloth with silver gilt titles on cover; it is protected by a now battered pictorial dust jacket, itself encased in a mylar sheath. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket shows considerable edge wear including wrinkles, small tears and chips, now presumably under control with the application of the mylar sheath. The hard covers are bright and handsome, with very nice silver gilt titles; there are some tiny blemishes to the finish. Inside, the book is unmarked although there is some light toning to the early and late pages. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
