Erstausgabe
Trade paperback. Zustand: Very good. 189, [19] pages. Illustrated front cover. Illustrations. This Dover edition, first published in 1992, is an unabridged and slightly altered republication of the work originally published under the title, My Father Who Is on Earth, G. P. Putnam's Sons, New York, 1946. John Lloyd Wright (December 12, 1892 - December 20, 1972) was an American architect and toy inventor. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, Wright was the second-oldest son of famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright. John Lloyd Wright became estranged from his father in 1909 and subsequently left his home to join his brother on the West Coast. After unsuccessfully working a series of jobs, he decided to take up the profession of his father in 1912. Shortly afterward, he was able to reconnect with his father, who took John under his wing. Differences in opinion regarding the Imperial Hotel, Tokyo caused the pair to again become disunited. John Lloyd Wright took a break from architecture after this falling-out and focused on designing toys. The most successful of these inventions was Lincoln Logs in 1916, which would later be one of the original inductees into the National Toy Hall of Fame. In 1923, Wright moved to Long Beach, Indiana and designed several buildings. His style was characterized by the Prairie School of architecture with International Style influences. After marrying a third time in 1946, Wright left Indiana for Del Mar, California, where he spent the rest of his life designing houses. Frank Lloyd Wright Sr. (June 8, 1867 - April 9, 1959) was an American architect, designer, writer, and educator. He designed more than 1,000 structures over a creative period of 70 years. Wright played a key role in the architectural movements of the twentieth century, influencing architects worldwide through his works and hundreds of apprentices in his Taliesin Fellowship. Wright believed in designing in harmony with humanity and the environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. This philosophy was exemplified in Fallingwater (1935), which has been called "the best all-time work of American architecture". He wrote several books and numerous articles and was a popular lecturer in the United States and in Europe. Wright was recognized in 1991 by the American Institute of Architects as "the greatest American architect of all time". In 2019, a selection of his work became a listed World Heritage Site as The 20th-Century Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. "An anecdotal reminiscence of America's chief living genius by his son short, unconventional, amusing and on the whole revealing." - Book Week. Frank Lloyd Wright is widely regarded as the twentieth century's greatest architect -- an unconventional genius who transformed both residential and commercial building design with his concept of organic architecture. During a long and productive life, Wright designed some 800 buildings, received scores of honors and awards, and left an indelible imprint on modern architectural theory and practice. In this charming, readable memoir, Wright the architect and father comes to life through the vivid recollections and firsthand knowledge of his son. John Lloyd Wright characterizes his father as a rebel, a jolt to civilization, whose romantic theme, purposive planning and organic unity in inventing and combining forms, is an epoch in the architecture of the world. His unique view of the epoch will intrigue architects, students, and all who admire the work of this visionary and uncompromising spirit. An added attraction of this volume is the inclusion of the complete text of William C. Gannet's The House Beautiful, an extremely rare work designed and printed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Dover Edition, presumed first printing thus.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. First Printing [Stated]. The format is approximately 8.75 inches by 8.75 inches. xxi, [1], 231, [3] pages. Illustrated DJ has some wear, soiling, and scuffing. Illustrations. Footnotes and Marginal Notes. Foreword by Angela Giral. Introduction by Narciso G. Menocal. Postscript by Elizabeth Wright Ingraham. Includes the complete My Father Who Is on Earth 1946 text with notes, comments and corrections by. John Lloyd Wright; Additions to an Intended Edition, 1962 by John Lloyd Wright; "Special Problems That Befall a Son of a Great Man" by John Lloyd Wright. On March 6, 1945, after hearing rumors that his son, John, was writing a book about their stormy past, Frank Lloyd Wright wrote a note asking him, "What is this talk of a book? Of all that I don't need and dread is more exploitation. Can't you drop it?" John assured his father that he would like the book and sent him a copy on its publication March 29, 1946. A few days later, Frank Lloyd Wright returned it with numerous comments penciled in the margin, responding to what his son had written, and with a request that a new, second copy be sent to him. John complied with the request but first transcribed not only all his father's comments into the clean copy in black pencil but also his own answers to them in red pencil. He also transcribed all these comments into a third copy, again using colors to differentiate his comments from those of his father. This third copy is the basis for this new edition of John Lloyd Wright's book. The main text of this volume is a reprint of the 1946 edition along with marginal notes, comments, and corrections made by John Lloyd Wright and his father, as well as explanatory notes and an introduction by Narciso G. Menocal. In the postscript, Elizabeth Wright Ingraham, John Lloyd Wright's daughter, remembering her grandfather and father, says that in this edition "what was a son's book becomes a father and son book.".
