The author provides the furst full-length study to treat either the whole of Amadis de Gaule or its literary impact in Elizabethan England. he devotes a generous portion of the book to the literary qualities, motifs, and sources of the romance, for althought this extraordinary text forms a natural bridge between late medieval and early Renaissance literary traditions, little scholarly attention has given to its signficance in literary history.
