Several figures are resting or standing near the jetty where the ferry leaves. The ferry itself is a rowboat to the right. Etching on hand laid paper, made by Joannes Bemme after his own design, c. 1800. Sheet size 279 x 217 mm., platemark 183 x 121 mm. Joannes Bemme (Rotterdam 1775-1841 The Hague) was a draughtsman, watercolorist and printmaker. Most of his etchings are after old masters, or military themed. In good condition. A tear in the top margin (not affecting image). Glued to matting, with brown glue that bleeds through on the top margin (outside of image area). A small spot in the right margin. Image clean and a nice impression. References: LeBlanc i.265: 3-26.

Portrait of the painter Dirk Langendijk in an oval frame. On the foreground a palette with brushes and a print with a scene with soldiers on horse.The print is at an early state, namely before the signatures of the artists were added below the portrait.The names are here reported in pencil, with a slightly different formula than the actual printed version: "J.B. Scheffer pinx" and J [?] Bemme del sculp." The bottom right corner is inscribed in pencil. Date of publishing ca 1805. Etching on paper with broad margins; plate mark: 243 x 173 mm, total: 434 x 293 mm; state III/4 (although van Someren mentions 7 states) foxing on the margins and a wide damp stain on the bottom right, not affecting the plate; some smudges, otherwise fine condition. Dirk Langendijk (1748-1805) specialised in military scenes. He was famous for his watercolours of battlefields. Condition: good, given age. Light foxing, creasing and soiling.
