Leather. Zustand: Very Good. A charming Paris edition of an intriguing medieval treatise on shepherding, bound in half morocco with blue marble boards. A charming edition of Le Bon Berger ou Le Vray Régime et Gouvernement des Bergers et Bergères, (The Good Shepherd or The True Regime and Government of Shepherds and Shepherdesses), an intriguing treatise on shepherding, written by Jehan le Brie. Published in 1879, believed to be first published in 1379, with this Paris edition originally published in 1541 with a notice by Paul Lacroix. In half black morocco, with blue marble boards. A fascinating source, this curious gem was originally commissioned by the King of France, Charles II of Navarre, for de Brie was reknowned for his shepherding prowess. Shepherding was among the most significant trades in Western Europe during the High Middle Ages, and in it Brie teaches readers how to be a good shepherd. In half black morocco, with blue marble boards. Externally, mostly smart, with slight fading to boards, and slight rubbing to joints. A couple of small rubbing marks to morocco. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine, a little heavier to the extremities. Blue marble end papers are generally bright and clean with a couple of small marks, and slight fading to extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are mostly bright and clean, with slight browning to first and final leaves, heaviest to extra title leaf to rear. Very Good. Unknown (illustrator). book.…
