The NY Times review in 1935 commented "In a loose, swift, breathless style, James pictures the intricate and far-flung functioning of a big shop, l…ocated in a mythical Union City not unlike New York. The personal side of the story has two angles. There is the success theme and Then there is the shop-girl's point of view. Jeanne Farrell and Mary Morrow, whose families years later have lost their fortunes, come to work in the big Buntling store. One of them meets John Buntling Jr., heir to the Buntling millions, and falls in love with him. . . The humorous tone of the book is set by the wisecracking chatter of its young moderns and the hard-boiled scolding of old Josy Buntling." 318 pp. Fair condition only in red cloth with black lettering - some fading at bottom of spine from dampness, with bleeding to the gutter of the rear endpapers, a bit of fraying to the top of the spine, a preliminary page with the synopsis detached but still present, and other general wear, no dust jacket.
