Pp.iv + 231 + 13 + vii + 7 plates. Several vignettes in text. Lightly signed on prelims "Jos Sevenson the gift of the Author". Two other owners names are neatly on the title page including Fr.Joseph Scarr, Catholic Rector of Whitley Bay. The book is bound in with Transactions of the Cambridge Camden Society, A Selection of the Papers read at the Ordinary Meetings in 1839-184, pp.301 with a number of b/w plates. 1839 - 41. Some of Scarr's correspondence is loosely inserted. Stevenson (1806 - 1895) was educated by Raine at Durham School. As a schoolboy in Durham Stevenson was known for keeping a loaded pistol in his trunk, which once went off in the hands of a servant. He went on to help catalogue the Arundel Collection at the British Museum. He returned to Durham where he studied theology, was ordained and became Librarian at the Cathedral. Later in life he moved to be Vicar of Leighton Buzzard before converting to Catholicism and dying a Jesuit. Inscribed by Author(s).
