Three vintage black-and-white studio still photographs from the 1975 film. An aging movie star, pining for his lost days of fame, throws a lavish Hollywood party in an attempt to pique the interest of some big shot producers. However, the party flops, resulting in an orgiastic and murderous free-for-all. Set in Hollywood, shot o…n location in California. 10 x 8 inches. Fine, with a stamp to the verso of each.

2pp., 12mo. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. He has 'desired Longman to send you half-a dozen copies of the magazine'. Conway can 'either sent them as they are, or cut your own article out'. Froude would prefer the first option, '& will of course bear the expense & the Postage'. The letter ends with Froude making a dinn…er invitation.

16 page vintage program for the 1930 film, announcing its showing at Broadway theaters in New York, with abundant black and white photographs of actors, aerial stunts, and Howard Hughes throughout. Hughes' most expensive and ambitious production, a story about World War I combat pilots, today still a dazzling work of blockbuster… action and actual aerial biplane footage. Originally conceived as a silent film and then retooled as a talkie in the wake of "The Jazz Singer." Most of the film is shot in black and white, but one sequence is in color-the only color footage ever released of actress Jean Harlow before her untimely death. James Whale was hired by Hughes to direct the talking sequences, Whale's first major effort in Hollywood, but the overall production took so long, that Whale's subsequent directorial effort, "Journey's End," was released first. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography. Card wrappers, saddle stapled, 5 x 6.5 inches. 16 pages. Near Fine.

Hardcover. Zustand: Good. 2 volumes, both bound in full leather, with maroon title labels on the spine. Bindings are complete and hinges are strong, but leather is scuffed, corners bumped. First volume dated Jan 18 1792 on the title page. Second volume has the date Sept 6, 1794. 221 and 338 pages plus section of ads. Text blocks… tight, corners crisp. Paper toned from age, foxed in places, but all appropriate for age. Volume 1 has the name R.C. Brent signed on inside front cover (contemporaneous with publication date). The name Wm. Ford signed beneath that. Remains of a early 19th century bookplate on inside cover as well. On the title page, handwritten note, 'Wm Moncure Purchased at[??} Feby 18th 1808.' Yet another name faintly signed below that, dated 1877. Volume 2 has complete bookplate of Henry W. Moncure, Richmond VA, on inside front cover. The name R.C. Brent signed there as well, but crossed out, with the note 'expunged by the Board' beneath. Lightly written name on free endpaper dated 1837. Handwritten note on title page says Wm Moncure Purchased at [??]Feby 18th 1808. William Moncure lived from 1774-1832; buried in Aquia VA. His son Henry (1800-1866) also buried in Stafford. The Ford family related by marriage to the Moncures. Both were prominent Stafford County families in the 18th century. This is the first US edition of Beattie. Beattie was an outspoken abolitionist; it is interesting to find his book in an antebellum southern library. Please email with questions or to request photos.
