In den WarenkorbBuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -It is likely that most fans of bluegrass music would concede that no state should be more associated with bluegrass music than Kentucky--and rightly so. Bluegrass music draws its name from the band that Kentuckian Bill Monroe formed during the late 1930s and 1940s. Bill named his band Bill Monroe and The Blue Grass Boys to honor his home state. Eventually, the music these bands and others like them were playing came to be known as bluegrass music. Later, another Kentuckian, Ebo Walker, while playing with the Bowling Green-based bluegrass band, New Grass Revival, coined the phrase 'newgrass' to describe the band's progressive style of music. Other Kentuckians such as Bobby and Sonny Osborne, J. D. Crowe, Ricky Skaggs, and Dale Ann Bradley have become bluegrass stars. Some of the musicians from Kentucky covered in this book are quite famous--some are not. Famous or not, all of them have a deep-rooted passion for the music they play.Libri GmbH, Europaallee 1, 36244 Bad Hersfeld 130 pp. Englisch.

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Limited Edition [number 595 of 2000]. x, 260, [2] p. Includes: illustrations, index. Footnotes. Foreword by Steve Cauthen. Professor James Claypool has taught and written about Kentucky history, culture, and roots music for some four decades. From Wikipedia: "Latonia Race Track on Winston Avenue in Latonia (Covington) Kentucky, six miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio, was a Thoroughbred horse racing facility opened in 1883. The track hosted a spring-summer racing series and a second in late fall. It was once regarded as among the United States' top sites for racing, and drew more than 100, 000 visitors annually. The 1924 Kentucky Derby winner Black Gold ran at Latonia Race Track, and jockey Eddie Arcaro got his start there. The track's main attraction was the annual 1½ mile Latonia Derby, initially run as the "Hindoo Stakes " in honor of the great Kentucky-bred champion Hindoo. It became so popular that in 1912 a motion picture was made by Independent Motion Picture Co. titled Winning the Latonia Derby that featured silent film star King Baggot. The inaugural 1883 Latonia Derby was won by Kentucky Derby winner Leonatus. In November 1909, an air meet was held at Latonia. The air meet was a small affair, but included famed aviator Glenn Curtiss and others such as Charles Willard and Roy Knabenshue. The highlight of the meet was a race held between Curtiss and Willard "for a cup offered by the local capitalist." Very good in good dust jacket. Small tear in DJ at mid-spine front. Signed by author. Inscribed on t-p.
