In den WarenkorbZustand: New. Idioma/Language: Inglés. Entanglement was initially thought by some to be an oddity restricted to the realm of thought experiments. However, Bellâs inequality delimiting local - havior and the experimental demonstration of its violation more than 25 years ago made it entirely clear that non-local properties of pure quantum states are more than an intellectual curiosity. Entanglement and non-locality are now understood to ?gure prominently in the microphysical world, a realm into which technology is rapidly hurtling. Information theory is also increasingly recognized by physicists and philosophers as intimately related to the foun- tions of mechanics. The clearest indicator of this relationship is that between quantum information and entanglement. To some degree, a deep relationship between information and mechanics in the quantum context was already there to be seen upon the introduction by Max Born and Wolfgang Pauli of the idea that the essence of pure quantum states lies in their provision of probabilities regarding the behavior of quantum systems, via what has come to be known as the Born rule. The signi?cance of the relationship between mechanics and information became even clearer with Leo Szilardâs analysis of James Clerk Maxwellâs infamous demon thought experiment. Here, in addition to examining both entanglement and quantum infor- tion and their relationship, I endeavor to critically assess the in?uence of the study of these subjects on the interpretation of quantum theory. *** Nota: Los envíos a España peninsular, Baleares y Canarias se realizan a través de mensajería urgente. In den WarenkorbTaschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - In one word, this is a responsible book; the rest is commentary. Around 1992 a few of us were led by Charles Bennett into a Garden of Eden of quantum information, communication, and computation. No sooner had we started exploring our surroundings and naming the birds and the beasts, than Peter Shor put an end to that apparent innocence by showing that factoring could be turned-by means of quantum hardware-into a po- nomial task. Fast factoring meant business; everybody seemed to be awfully interested in factoring. Not that anyone had any use for factoring per se, but it seemed that all the world's secrets were protected by factor-keyed padlocks. Think of all the power and the glory (and something else) that you might get by acting as a consultant to big businesses and government agencies, helping them pick everyone else's locks and at the same time build unpickable ones (well, nearly unpickable) for themselves. And if one can get an exponential advantage in factoring, wouldn't an exponential advantage be lying around the corner for practically any other computational task Quantum infor- tion 'and all that' has indeed blossomed in a few years into a wonderful new chapter of physics, comparable in avor and scope to thermodynamics. It has alsoturnedintoaveritable'industry'-producingpapers,conferences,exp- iments, e ects, devices-even proposals for quantum computer architectures.

In den WarenkorbTaschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -This monograph identifiesthe essential characteristics of the objects described by current quantum theoryand considers their relationship to space-time.In the process, it explicates the senses in which quantum objects may be consistently considered to have parts of which they may be composed or into which they may be decomposed. The book also demonstrates the degree to which reduction is possible in quantum mechanics, showing it to be related to the objective indefiniteness of quantum properties and the strong non-local correlations that can occur betweenthephysical quantities of quantum subsystems. Careful attention is paid to the relationships among such property correlations, physical causation, probability, and symmetry in quantum theory. In this way, the text identifies and clarifies the conceptual grounds underlying the unique nature of many quantum phenomena.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 216 pp. Englisch.

In den WarenkorbBuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book analyses the subtleties of non-locality and the indefiniteness of properties on quantum systems in their ultimate probabilistic and spacetime context. It pays careful attention to the subtleties of non-locality and its relationship to causality and probability in quantum theory. In this way it focuses uniquely on the distinguishing foundational characteristics of quantum physics allowing readers to understand precisely the conceptual origins of the unusual nature of quantum phenomena. In particular, the relationship of quantum theory to causality and probability is made clear. By focusing on the corresponding distinguishing foundational characteristics of quantum physics, the conceptual origins of the unusual nature of quantum phenomena are exposed. In this way it focuses uniquely on the distinguishing foundational characteristics of quantum physics allowing readers to understand precisely the conceptual origins of the unusual nature of quantum phenomena.
