Zustand: Wie Neu. Zustandsbeschreibung: leichte Lagerspuren/minor shelfwear. Edited by Eve-Marie Becker, Morten Hørning Jensen and Jacob Mortensen. In his long scholarly career, Per Bilde (1939-2014) published various essays, studies and articles examining early Judaism and the historical Jesus from the angle of the work of Philo and Josephus. They are now edited posthumously with contributions from Steve Mason (Groningen) and Mogens Müller (Copenhagen) responding to Bilde's work. - Contents: 1: The Roman Emperor Gaius (Caligula)'s Attempt to Erect his Statue in the Temple of Jerusalem. - 2: The Causes of the Jewish War According to Josephus. - 3: Testimonium Flavianum. - 4: The Geographical Excursus in Josephus. - 5: Contra Apionem 1.28-56: An Essay On Josephus? View of His Own Work in the Context of the Jewish Canon. - 6: The Essenes in Philo and Josephus. - 7: Josephus and Jewish Apocalypticism. - 8: Was hat Josephus über die Synagoge zu sagen? - 9: The Jews in Alexandria in 38-41 CE. - 10: Philo as a Polemist and a Political Apologist: An Investigation of his Two Historical Treatises Against Flaccus and The Embassy to Gaius. - 11: Der Konflikt zwischen Gaius Caligula und den Juden über die Aufstellung einer Kaiserstatue im Tempel von Jerusalem. -- Steve Mason: Per Bilde?s Place in Research on Josephus. - Mogens Müller : Messianic Figures in the Works of Josephus and their Impact on Per Bilde?s Understanding of the Historical Jesus. 316 Seiten, gebunden (Studia Aarhusiana Neotestamentica; Vol. 7/Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht 2016). Zustand: Wie Neu. Zustandsbeschreibung: leichte Lagerspuren/minor shelfwear. Authorial Strategies of Self-Fashioning in Light of a Ciceronian Term. Edited by Eve-Marie Becker and Jacob Mortensen. 20ths century research in St. Paul is widely impacted by Adolf Deissmann?s prominent view on the apostle as a ?homo novus? (1911). This collection of articles does not only re-evaluate Deissmann?s concept by tracing it back to its historical and socio-political origins in Cicero and exploring how authors from (early) Imperial Time perceive and transform the homo novus paradigm by diverse modes and strategies of literary self-fashioning. Scholars also examine how the Ciceronian paradigm was early on transformed, disseminated, and applied as a literary concept and an authorial topos of self-molding. With contributions by Oda Wischmeyer, Andreas Mehl, Henriette van der Blom et al. 350 Seiten, gebunden (Studia Aarhusiana Neotestamentica; Vol. 6/Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht 2018). Statt EUR 85,00. In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: New. 285 pages : 24 cm. This book is the third publication from the international group of researchers involved in developing the SLICE programme, SLICE being an acronym for Standard Language Ideology in Contemporary Europe. . SLICE is interested in ideologies of language as much as in the forms and functions of languages themselves, and in exploring how ideology can be made visible by different research methods. This implies a commitment to researching the attitudes and value-structures that underpin attributions of 'standard', potential subjective complexities and shifts in these subjectivities. One of SLICE's key objectives is to make informed assessments of the extent and nature of linguistic destandardisation in contemporary European contexts. While sociolinguistic attention has so far been given to standardising processes the mechanisms by which language varieties 'rise' to function ideologically and practically as standard varieties it is also necessary to move beyond linear accounts and to explore whether and how varieties that have functioned as standards may be losing their legitimacy. Is there evidence that ways of speaking that have been positioned as 'non-standard' or vernacular varieties are 'moving up' to function in domains previously associated with standard varieties? More radically, is there evidence that the ideological systems that have supported attributions of standard and vernacular language may be crumbling, losing their potency or being restructured? Is it appropriate to see late modernity as an era when linguistic standardisation is in some ways and in some places being reversed, or at least rendered more complex and multi-dimensional?

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This exciting new interpretation of Paul's Letter to the Romans approaches Paul's most famous letter from one of the newest scholarly positions within Pauline Studies: The Radical New Perspective on Paul (also known as Paul within Judaism). As a point of departure, the author takes Paul's self-designation in 11:13 as 'apostle to the gentiles' as so determining for Paul's mission that the audience of the letter is perceived to be exclusively gentile. The study finds confirmation of this reading-strategy in the letter's construction of the interlocutor from chapter 2 onwards. Even in 2:17, where Paul describes the interlocutor as someone who 'calls himself a Jew,' it requests to perceive this person as a gentile who presents himself as a Jew and not an ethnic Jew. If the interlocutor is perceived in this way throughout the letter, the dialogue between Paul and the interlocutor can be perceived as a continuous, unified and developing dialogue. In this way, this interpretation of Romans sketches out a position against a more disparate and fragmentary interpretation of Romans.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 20ths century research in St. Paul is widely impacted by Adolf Deissmann's prominent view on the apostle as a 'homo novus' (1911). But where does this concept originate from, and what does it imply This collection of articles does not only re-evaluate Deissmann's concept by tracing it back to its historical and socio-political origins in Cicero and exploring how authors from (early) Imperial Time perceive and transform the homo novus paradigm by diverse modes and strategies of literary self-fashioning. Scholars ranging the fields of New Testament Studies, Greek and Latin Philology, Ancient History, Patristics, and Comparative Literature also examine how the Ciceronian paradigm was early on transformed, disseminated, and applied as a literary concept and an authorial topos of self-molding. One of the leading questions throughout the volume thus is: How do authors like Cicero, Horace, Paul, Tacitus, Seneca, Athanasius, and Augustine fashion themselves in accordance to or in difference from the idea of being a 'new man' It is argued that by means of literary self-configuration, indeed, some of these writers - such as Paul and Augustine - want to appear as 'new men' by either altering traditional social, moral, religious, or political roles, or by creating new patterns of social behavior and religious self-understanding.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The rise of early Christianity was accompanied by a period of impressive literary production. Early Christian authors combined literary forms from Greco-Roman writings with the style and content of Hellenistic Jewish literature to create a tertium quid. Their literary works are therefore comparable to both Jewish and Greco-Roman contemporary writings, but they adopt, modify and transform literary conventions according to their needs and interests to communicate their message showing signs of literary innovation and creativity. This volume shows the innovative aspect of early Christian literature, by integrating adjacent fields of research as ancient history, classical studies, Jewish studies, patristics and religious studies. The analyses explore how and why early Christian literature unexpectedly established itself as a literary force in the early imperium.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - One of the most fundamental questions when reading and trying to understand New Testament texts is the question of genre. It is impossible to understand a text, its meaning and intention, in its proper historical setting if one does not understand its genre: As an example, interpreting a satirical text without understanding the genre would no doubt lead to grave misunderstandings. The same logic applies to texts from the New Testament, and the matter is complicated even further by the immense historical gap between the time of the genesis of the New Testament canon and now. The problem of the New Testament texts' genre(s) is therefore a vital area of scholarly discussion within international New Testament scholarship. The current volume utilizes the newest insights from current research on the New Testament to cast new light on the question of the genre of Mark's Gospel. Here, prominent international New Testament scholars discuss how we should understand the genre(s) of Mark's Gospel, thus making an important contribution to international scholarship on the Gospel of Mark as well as the Gospel genre in general.
