Essay by Dr. Eugene Anderson and an interview by Colin Gardner and with the illustrator Hans Burkhardt. Sturdy, still tightly bound softcover copy, minor to moderate wear of covers and text-block, but with neither underlining nor highlighting. Perfectly readable, usable copy. The artist Hans Gustav Burkhardt (1904 - 1994) Was a Swiss-American Abstract Expressionist, born in Basel, Switzerland, and after being orphaned, he and his sister left to live in an orphanage. He left eventually for New York so as to become a cabinetmaker, but began to dabble in German art. From 1925 To 1928 he was a student at the Cooper Union School Of The Arts, being mentored eventually by both Arshile Gorky and Willem De Kooning.
