No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. A collection of 122 designs for houses, villas, cottages, churches, carriage houses, etc. , in a wide range of styles by Hobbs's Philadelphia firm. Each design is described and given an estimated price; an introduction provides "practical hints in regard to the cultivation of artistic taste, choice of situation, style, construction, heating, ventilation, etc. To aid its readers in the cultivation of taste and the love of the beautiful." Originally published in 1873 with 84 designs, this edition includes 38 additional designs. Isaac Harding Hobbs represents the architect who managed to prosper in the economic boom present in the United States in the late nineteenth century. Although his work could be characterizes as an example of Victorian excess, he designed and built numerous residences during this period, both in and outside of Pennsylvania; he published two pattern books of his designs and further published and sold his designs through a major periodical intended for middle-class consumption, Godey's Lady's Book. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.…
