Discovered in the attic in which she spent the last years of her life, Anne Frank?s remarkable diary has become a world classic - a powerful reminder of the horrors of war and an eloquent testament to the human spirit. In 1942, with the Nazis occupying Holland, a thirteen-year-old Jewish girl and her family fled their home in Amsterdam and went into hiding. For the next two years, until their whereabouts were betrayed to the Gestapo, the Franks and another family lived cloistered in the ?Secret Annexe? of an old office building. Cut off from the outside world, they faced hunger, boredom, the constant cruelties of living in confined quarters, and the ever-present threat of discovery and death. In her diary Anne Frank recorded vivid impressions of her experiences during this period. By turns thoughtful, moving, and surprisingly humorous, her account offers a fascinating commentary on human courage and frailty and a compelling self-portrait of a sensitive and spirited young woman whose promise was tragically cut short. Condition: This copy is in very good condition, with a little light wear to the wrapper.

Hardcover. Zustand: Near fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: good +. 2nd Printing. Second (or later) printing, octavo size, 285 pp., with "Book Find News" It would be hard to find anyone, even today, more than 70 years after her death, who does not know of Anne Frank (1929-1945). Hidden by friends in an attic in order to escape detection from Nazis, the family remained hidden for two years - until betrayed by a neighbor. Her diary tells of the experience of those two years, in her own words, ending abruptly with: " I can't keep that up: if I'm watched to that extent, I start by getting snappy, then unhappy, and finally I twist my heart round again, so that the bad is on the outside and the good is on the inside and keep on trying to find a way of becoming what I would so like to be, and what I could be, if.there weren't any other people living in the world." She died in Bergen-Belsen in March of 1945, only two months before the liberation of the camp. This volume an early reprint, with the 1952 date on both the title and copyright pages, but not the first printing. It does, however, have the "Book Find News", a short newsletter sent to members of "The Book Find Club", this Issue No. 125, edited by George Braziller. The issue highlights this book, with a book review by Meyer Levin, the introduction written by Eleanor Roosevelt (wife of the then-President, Franklin D. Roosevelt), press reviews, and publisher's ads for other works. ___DESCRIPTION: Bound in full black textured paper over boards, silver lettering stamped onto the spine, pictorial endpapers; binding octavo size (7 5/8" by 5 1/8"), pagination: [1-10] 11-283 [1, blank] [1, Epilogue]. With the original publisher's jacket, the front panel with a reproduction of a black-and-white photograph of Anne, the back panel with a sample page of Anne's diary, summary of the book on both flaps. Loosely laid in is the "Book Find News", two sheets folded to eight pages with stapled binding, the contents as set forth above. ___CONDITION: Volume near fine, the boards clean, straight corners without rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean with the pages lightly toned, and entirely free of prior owner markings; a shallow indentation to the top edge of both boards, else fine. The jacket a bit better than good, it has been price-clipped, and while all parts are present and without tears, there is overall edgewear, overall light soil, and sunning to the spine. The "Book Find News" very good, with one horizontal fold (likely for mailing), clean, the stapled binding still strong, with a few unintended creases and light wear at the spine. ___POSTAGE: International customers, please note the following: (i) additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs, please inquire for details; and (ii) any taxes, duty, or tariffs charged by your country will, of necessity, be your responsibility. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell.
