An important history of Ancient Egypt by Georg Ebers (1837-1898), an authority of Egyptology. He was best known for his purchase of the Ebers Papyrus, one of the oldest Egyptian medical documents in the world. This work is translated from the original German into English by Clara Bell, an important translator of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with an introduction and notes by the British Egyptologist and antiquarian Samuel Birch (1813-1885). Profusely illustrated throughout with a frontispiece, thirteen plates and numerous in-text illustrations. Collated, complete. Externally, generally satisfacting.
