A handy devotional volume in an unusual binding making use of newly invented celluloid to imitate ivory. Trigesimo-secundo (125 x 80 mm). Original cream morocco-grain skiver spine, lettered in gilt with compartments ruled in gilt with central tool, imitation ivory celluloid boards edged in brass, red, blue and gilt inlaid cross to front board, pale yellow coated endpapers, edges red and gilt, white bookmarker. Gilt-morocco gift label dated 1875 to front pastedown. Binding gently marked, inobtrusive split to surface of front board, front inner hinge cracked but firm. A near-fine copy.
