Previous studies on the conflict have not given proper attention to the role of communication in averting the conflict. This paper presents the root and remote causes of the Tiv Jukun conflict. Identifying the triggers and drivers of conflict between the two ethnic groups could help in bringing about a lasting solution to the crisis. Interviews were used to illicit the opinion of various demographics of both ethnic groups. Research questions focusing on the purpose of the investigation guided the study. A standardized open-ended interview format was used to collect data. The data collected were analyzed using the explanation building model. The result of the research questions showed that there are factors that influence journalists, the pressure that influences the framing of news by journalists, and the strategies journalists employ in reporting conflicts are many. The study revealed that journalists contribute to peace-building before, during, and after crises. The study was guided by three research questions and one. The study adopted a descriptive survey design with a population of 278,202 members of various council wards in the study areas. A sample of 400 members of various council wards was selected using the random and proportionate-stratified sampling techniques. Data for this study were collected with the use of a self-designed questionnaire. The result of the analyzed data revealed that the causes of insecurity in the study areas are cult clashes, conflicting political factions, poor distribution of resources, violent resistance to exploitation by government and corporate organizations and neglect of the people.
