Kuna tegu on ka Eesti tähtsaima võistkonnaga ehk koondmeeskonnaga, sai selle ajalugu nüüd põhjalikku teatmeteosesse kirja. Eesti koondis on kokku pidanud 719 maavõistlusmängu 67 riigi vastu, neist võitnud 354, kaotanud 359 ja viigistanud 6. Detailses teatmeteoses on ajalises järjestuses kirjeldatud iga mängu ja toodud ära koondise koosseisud koos visatud punktidega. Millest kõik algas? 29. aprillil 1924 ehk täpselt sada aasta tagasi peeti Tallinnas Harjuoru võimlas esimene ametlik maavõistlus Eesti ja Läti rahvuskoondiste vahel, mida lätlased peavad üldse esimeseks korvpalli maavõistluseks Euroopas. Piletiga pealtvaatajaid oli 252. Mängule lisas pidulikkust orkester, kes lätlaste väljajooksu järel mängis nende riigihümni ja meie meeste väljajooksu järel meie hümni. Mäng oli tasavägine.
