In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Good. Printed front wrap, apparently disbound from a larger volume, without the back wrap, 14 x 21cm. Printed by Stephen Austin & Sons, Hertford. 24pp complete with the author's folding "Sketch Map of the Oases of the Libyan Desert" dated 1900. Otherwise very good, tanned, with map neatly folded. Inscribed to the front "Dr Henry Woodward. F.R.S. With the author's compliments". Woodward was Keeper of Geology at the Natural History Museum in London. Beadnell summarises his own discoveries in the Libyan Desert for the Geological Survey of Egypt since its formation in 1896. He covers Abu Roash, Baharia, Farafra and Dakhla, Fayum, and the Nile Valley, touching also on the limited work conducted prior to this (most notably by Zittel during the Rohlfs Expedition of 1873-4). The map shows the location of Fayum, Baharia, Iddaila, Farafra, Dakhla, and Kharga. Inscribed by Author(s).

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Fair. Original printed green paper covered boards with green cloth spine 19x28cm. Printed in 1923 by the Government Press in a run of 400 copies. IV, 37, (1)pp, (8)pp containing 16 b/w photos, 1 b/w folding Key Map, and 5 folding colour maps and sections (Plates I-V) all present as called for. Covers fair only, marked, damp stained, with presentation plate to the front. Interiors good, lightly rippled and creased, with sheets neatly folded and very good. The plate reads: "Presented to the University of Reading from the library of John Walter Gregory, 1936", with his name inscribed. Gregory (1864-1932) was best known for his work on the East African Rift Valleys, Australia, and glacial geology. This report describes Beadnell's "purely economic" investigation into the region's oil potential during October 1922 to March 1923. He based himself at Qoseir, which as a major phosphate centre had weekly camel postal, a private motor service, a telegraph office 100km distant, a steamer service, provisions (prices considerably above Nile Valley towns), and Bedouin camel transport and drivers via the Ababda Sheikh. Owing to lack of rain most water wells were dry. Previous exploration in the area was not extensive. The rest of the report describes topography, water supplies, and geology. Beadnell concludes by recommending exploration between Qoseir and Hurghada, though the risk of failure is great, and not recommended to smaller capital limited companies. The Key Map is on a 1/2M scale. Plates I-IV show the area in sections on a 1/100K scale (Qoseir - Wadi Um Ghaig - Wadi Shagra - Wadi el Ghadi - Wadi Ranga). Plate V contains 8 Geological Sections Across the Coastal Plain. The photos present panoramic views. (OCLC 7490589).

In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Very Good. Offprint in the original wraps with Congress emblem to the front 17x25cm. Printed in Lille by Le Bigot Freres. 28pp French text including in-text b/w diagrams and photos by the author + 1 full-page map by the author (Planche XIX) as called for. Covers very good, tanning at the edges. Interiors fine, except for "Erratum" neatly written with two lines in red ink to the diagram on p6. Inscribed in ink to the front "With the author's kind regards" without his signature. The previous owner's name "C.G. Cullis" penciled above this, would very likely be Professor Charles Gilbert Cullis (1871-1941), who had been with Imperial College's Geological Department since 1890, becoming its Chair of Mining Geology in 1930. Hugh Beadnell, FGS, FRGS (1874-1944), was at this time a Member of the Geological Survey of Egypt. This talk was presented to the 8th Session of the International Geological Congress in Paris on 21 August 1900, with the blessing of the Secretary of State, and the Survey of Egypt's Director General. Building on the work of Zittel who had accompanied Rohlf's expedition during 1873-74, it outlines Beadnell's discoveries during the last 3-4 years for the areas around Abu Roach and Beharieh (Bahariya) Oasis in particular. The map, "Principales depressions ou Oasis du Desert Libyen", shows the Nile from the Delta to Aswan to the east, and the Libyan Desert Oases to the west, with the author's routes individually dated during 1897-98. Very rare with OCLC listing only 2 holdings: Bibliotheque interuniversitaire Sainte-Genevieve; Universitatsbibliothek Erfurt (OCLC 494441445). Not recorded on Library Hub. This was also translated into English ("Recent Geological Discoveries in the Nile Valley and Libyan Desert"). Inscribed by Author(s).
