Endpapers of book by Daniel Buren. "Since public museums came into being in the late 18th century, artists have looked upon them with a mixture of reverence, complicity, suspicion, and disdain. In The Museum as Muse, artists of many persuasions speak their minds about museums, their functions and spaces, their practices and politics, and their relationship to the art they contain. More than 60 artists are represented by a wide range of works: photographs of museum patrons by Henri Cartier-Bresson and Elliot Erwitt; 'personal museums' and 'cabinets of curiosities' by Charles Wilson Peale, Marcel Duchamp, and Claes Oldenburg; fantasies of the destruction or transformation of museums by Hubert Robert, Ed Ruscha, and Christo and more, including works created especially for this project by contemporary artists, and an anthology of statements and writings by artists about museums. This volume was published to accompany an exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, New York." -- publisher's statement. Very Good. Light wear to dust-jacket including a 6 mm. tear to spine edge and bumping of upper edge of recto. Light yellowing of page edges. Contents otherwise clean and unmarked.

Softcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Magazine. Cover by Jeanne Marlowe. (20)pp. Single sheets printed both sides and secured with two staples. Folded once for mailing with post office cancel, stamp and mailing label, and some wear at the corner, near fine. An influential mimeograph created by di Prima and LeRoi Jones featuring some of the most important poets of the 20th Century. Unlike other magazines, this so-called "newsletter" was distributed via a mailing list, many of which were noted poets, journalists, critics, publishers and artists. For this reason, most copies were hand addressed or affixed with a mailing label and stamp, and folded for mailing. This copy is addressed to poet Robert Duncan, the highly influential Black Mountain teacher, contributor to the San Francisco Renaissance and early gay rights pioneer. This issue features contributions from Ruth Krauss, Alan Marlowe, Ferencz McNaughton, Carl Solomon, Hubert Selby, Jr., Herbert Hucke, Gilbert Sorrentino, Allan Kaprow, James Waring, Alex Katz, Howard Schulman, and Anne Wilson.

In den WarenkorbAn interesting item, providing a sidelight into the process of Victorian scholarly editing and publication. Fitchew's letter is 2pp, 4to, on the outer pages of a bifolium; the inner pages being filled with notes (citations?) in a minuscule hand, possibly the recipient's. In good condition, lightly aged and worn, and folded for postage. Addressed to 'H. W. Wilson' and signed 'E. H. Fitchew'. The letter begins: 'Dear Mr. Wilson / I think it is possible we may want a little more letterpress, but probably not much. Up to end of pt. 7 we have used 82 slips. I suppose deletion & added matter about balance each other, & we may therefore reckon remainder of book on the same basis. We have 27 slips, which should fill about 56 pp.' He continues in the same vein, discussing preface and index. Ends with discussion of question, 'Would you prefer to add to Chap. IX or only to Chap X?' There is some annotation in the second hand to the left of Fitchew's signature, and beneath it an illegible note in blue pencil. The book in question is 'Nelson and His Times' by Rear-Admiral Lord Charles Beresford and H. W. Wilson, 'With many illustrations mostly from contemporary sketches, selected, arranged, and annotated by Edward H. Fitchew', which was printed by Her Majesty's Printers Eyre & Spottiswoode, and published by Harmsworth Brothers Ltd in 1898. See image of additional annotation presumed by Wilson.
