"At ACOA he spearheaded numerous campaigns supporting African struggles for liberation and independence. Since 1954 he. made over 30 trips to Africa. Facsimile reprints of the first two years of this journal. Light smudge mark top corner of free endpaper and otherwise, contents are in fine condition. Tiny bump to spine tail, light rubbing lower edge, light outside dusting lower edge. Framfari was an Icelandic language newspaper published in a log printshop in Riverton, Manitoba, and was the first Icelandic newspaper in North America. It strove to inform the readership, educate the settlers in agricultural methods, foster a progressive attitude, and inspire loyalty among the early Icelandic settlers. It was only published for three years, and ceased publication on January 30, 1880 due to the internal divisions at the newspaper.

A separate chapter is dedicated to "The Power of nonviolence," elaborating on the necessary spirit while providing strategies and techniques to accomplish the goal. Finally it introduces the "Congress of Racial Equality (CORE)," its purposes and methods, and the so-called "Fellowship of Reconciliation," an organization that recognizes the unity of the worldwide human family working to transform society into a creative fellowship. Text prints a detailed accounts of the Congress of Racial Equity (CORE) members successfully protesting of discriminatory policy at r…estaurants, and other venues, in Chicago, through "direct action" [i.e. a sit-in], and tells the story of the founding of CORE, and accounts of "direct action" protests (at a skating rink, restaurants, etc.). From the text: "Members of CORE do not like to cause antagonism or any outbreak of violence, but they believe that action must be taken against Jim Crow, for the only alternative is to submit to injustice. CORE believes that over a period of time, if not immediately, this will insure a change in attitude and practice." Houser was a white Methodist minister from Chicago who co-founded Core in 1942 with James Farmer and Bernice Fisher. A rare publication. *OCLC* locates only one copy at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
