Later cloth, gilt fillets and title to spine, endleaves renewed. Faint spotting to front board, light rubbing to extremities, light fading to spine. Moderate toning to interior, occasional very light foxing, light soiling and faint offsetting to title page, which is reinforced at gutter on recto without loss to text. $175. * First edition, and the only edition in this form. A concise manual of the laws of Scotland. Hope became a member of the Scottish Bar in 1605 and became a Joint Lord Advocate in 1626, sole Lord Advocate in 1628. Light rubbing and a few small stains to boards, moderate rubbing to extremities, chip to head of spine, corners bumped, hinges cracked, later armorial bookplate (of Sir John Stewart-Richardson) to front pastedown, early annotation (biography of Fergus King of Scotland) to front free endpaper. Light toning to interior, very light foxing in a few places, two struck-through owner signatures and signature of John Richardson dated 1817 to first title page, 21 leaves with early annotations (copies of "The Nationall Solemn Legue and Covenant" and epitaphs for the Duke of Buckingham and the Duke of Marlborough) bound after text block.
