Fiji and 16 additional color plates; 4 sepia plates tipped on and with each page further decorated with sepia drawings. Staining to the cloth as well as some fade to the spine and top portion of the front cover; folds to the tissue guard at frontis. Beautifully produced volume that examines Japanese mythology symbols as they relate to art. The color drawings feature Feng-Hwang (The Phoenix), Fudo (god of Punishment), Urashima, Raiden (God of Thunder), authoress Murasaki Shikibu, Kiyohima, Kara-Shishi (the Dog Foo), Futen (wind god), Takara Bune (Ship of Good Fortune), Ebisu, Daikoku, Benzaiten (Benten, god of beauty), Fukurokujiu, Bishamon, Jurojin and Hotei.
