In 2010 Charlotte Verity drew and painted in what was, then, the garden of the Museum; Eileen Hogan arrived when we were a building site, not a garden. The point of the Cochem? residency is that an artist is supported to work for twelve months, and one of many pleasures is witnessing how the artist's brush begins, quickens, and slows in response to the seasons. In her essay Nicola Shulman, the writer and a Trustee of the Museum, describes how in the absence of a Museum garden as a place of residency Hogan asked 90 people to suggest gardens and green spaces that she should visit, many of which she sketched, and some of which she painted. (And Eileen is continuing to paint the second six of the twelve large, finished paintings she has conceived to represent the London year, which will be exhibited in totality at the Yale Center for British Art in 2019.) Hogan, Eileen (illustrator). The Sole UK printing published by Belmont Press, UK in 2000. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. An out of series unnumbered copy of 150 'special' signed and numbered copies (from a total edition of 250 copies), with an extra original print initialled by the artist, loosely inserted into a pocket to the rear. Quarter bound black morocco, with decorative blue and white patterned boards, titling in silver to the spine, with sage green end-papers. The book has been signed by both Kazuo Ishiguro and Eileen Hogan on the limitation page. The first 50 copies (labelled de-luxe) were bound in quarter leather with two extra prints, whilst the last 50 (standard) copies were quarter bound in cloth and had no extra loose prints. Designed and typeset by Libanus Press of Marlborough. Printed on Zerkall paper by Smith Settle of Otley and bound by The Fine Bindery. Beautifully illustrated in colour throughout by Eileen Hogan. The book is protected in a loose Mylar archival cover. Three stories set in Japan, written by the author some two decades prior to publication. Lois Seiff (d.2018) was instrumental in turning the attic space above the Royal Court Theatre, then used as a restaurant, into the Theatre Upstairs; she also ran the English Stage Society, a fundraising and supporters' group. was on numerous boards and committees: the National Theatre, the South Bank Foundation, the Royal Opera House, the London Sinfonietta, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and the Stephen Spender Trust. She chaired the Fulbright Arts Fellowship, the Anna Freud Centre and the Jerusalem Foundation UK. Eileen Hogan was born in London (1946) and studied at Camberwell School of Arts (1963Ð1967), the Royal Academy Schools (1967Ð1970), the British School of Archaeology at Athens (1970Ð1971) and the Royal College of Art (1971Ð1973). She is Professor in Fine Art in the C.C.W. (Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon art schools) Graduate School, University of the Arts London and a trustee of the Royal Drawing School.
