Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good- dj. First Edition. [nice clean tight book with no discernible wear; jacket is lightly soiled and a bit faded at spine, with a little wear along the top edge and an unfortunate tear (with some paper loss and an ugly surface-scrape) at the bottom of the rear panel]. (B&W photographs) INSCRIBED and SIGNED on the front endpaper: "To Betty and Gene Barry / with cordial good wishes / Kathryn Murray." This book presents "the full story of the complicated life of an extraordinary man [and] is equally Although his fame has undoubtedly faded in recent decades, for many years Arthur Murray's name was virtually synonymous with dancing: the Arthur Murray Dancing Schools, co-founded by he and his wife/partner in the 1920s, was franchised across the country, and their weekly variety program, "The Arthur Murray Party," had a ten-year run (1950-1960) on network TV. This particular copy of her book, in fact, is linked directly to the TV show: laid in is a typed note from Kathryn Murray, on her monogrammed note paper, confirming that the inscribee, actor Gene Barry, was "a charming guest and gave a highly entertaining performance." The note is dated May 2, 1960, and expresses to Barry that she hopes "you'll be able to view yourself tomorrow night." Also laid in is an original publisher's postcard, soliciting the reader's comment on the book. Signed by Author.
