Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good Only. The very scarce Second World War edition of this highly illustrated train maintenance guide, encased in the especially scarce dust wrapper. The very scarce eighth edition. In the publisher's original green cloth binding, presented in the exceedingly scarce, unclipped dust wrapper. A highly illustrated work, including a number of full-page examples and eighteen pages of figures to the rear. Featuring sixteen pages of relevant contemporary advertisements to the rear. A fascinating technical volume on the cleaning, driving and maintenance of contemporary steam trains. Written by Charles S. Lake, the associate editor ofThe Railway Gazette. James T. Hodgson, who co-edited the earlier volumes and who passed away soon after the publication of the seventh volume, is also credited as a co-author. This was the only edition to be published during the Second World War, the previous edition having been published in January 1939. In the publisher's original green cloth binding, presented in the exceedingly scarce, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart with slight bumping and rubbing, leading to minor loss of cloth at the spine head and tail, and a few further marks. Dust wrapper noticeably spotted and discoloured. With more significant shelf wear, including chips to the spine head, top and bottom edges and one smaller example to the front cover. Further tearing, including to the front joint. Internally, firmly bound. Generally bright and clean, a little age toned, more so to the first few pages, with occasional spotting, heavier to the front and rear. Very Good. Not Stated (illustrator). book.
