Angehende Ingenieure mit den Arbeitsmaschinen für das spanabhebende Formen näher bekannt zu machen ist eine Aufgabe, die sich dieses Buch besonders gestellt hat. Im Rahmen des Unterrichts an Ingenieurschulen soll dann dieses Buch vor allem eingesetzt werden. Der Aufbau des Buches ist so ausgerichtet, daß die einzelnen Maschinen entsprechend ihrem Einsatz für, das Bearbeiten der verschiedenen Werkstück-formen eingeteilt sind. Die. allen spanabhebenden Arbeitsmaschinen gemeinsamen Hauptantriebe der drehenden Bewegung werden vorweg besprochen. Die Berechnung der Getriebe ist dabei durch Beispiele vertieft; von, vereinfachten, zeichnerischen Darstellungen wird weitgehend Gebrauch gemacht. Alle wichtigen Arbeitsmaschinen, die für die spanabhebende Bearbeitung der verschiedensten Werkstückformen in Frage kommen, sind behandelt. Um den Umfang des Buches nicht zu groß werden zu lassen, mußte allerdings auf die Besprechung aller Sondermaschinen verzichtet werden. Einzelteile der Arbeitsmaschinen werden jeweils da besprochen, wo sie bei einer Maschine als besonders wichtig hervortreten. Im übrigen wurde aber besonderer Wert auf die anschauliche Verwendung von Fotos, Getriebeplänen und vereinfachten Zeichnungen gelegt. Sehr viele Firmen haben mich durch Überlassung von Bildvorlagen und durch das Lesen von Korrekturen unterstützt. Hierfür sei auch an dieser Stelle mein besonderer Dank zum Ausdruck gebracht. Ich hoffe, daß das Buch, das in dieser 3. Auflage im Abschnitt über den elektrischen Antrieb der Werkzeugmaschinen erweitert und durch die Behandlung der Maschinen für die Feinstbearbeitung vervollständigt wurde, seine Aufgabe im Unterricht der Ingenieurschulen erfüllt, daß es darüber hinaus aber auch den Ingenieuren der Praxis Anregung und nützliche Hilfe bei der täglichen Arbeit bietet.
