Contains 48 pages of photo…gravure illustrations. This was Brad Swan's review copy with his signature on the back of the release paper by Field Enterprises Educational Corp, which is laid in. Also laid in is a letter titled "The Purpose and Objectives of 1960-61 Himalayan Expedition as Described by the Expedition Leader, Sir Edmunf Hillary. Brad Swan climbed and hiked in the Himalaya, the Hebrides, the Antarctic, and the mountains of Western Canada. But his main qualification for election to the American Alpine Club was forty years of service as a volunteer guide and trainer of leaders for camp groups in the alpine areas of New England. He was Chairman of the Huts Committee for the Appalachian Mountain Club and served some years as editor of Appalachia, the oldest mountaineering journal in the Western Hemisphere. A few tiny dings to the dust jacket that is also showing a bit of browning along the edges. An important review copy with some additional mountaineering collector material. book.

Catharine Jan Morris was a Welsh historian, author and travel writer, known particularly for the 'Pax Britannica' trilogy and her participation as a member of the 1953 British Mount Everest expedition, which made the first ever confirmed ascent of the mountain. She was the only journalist to accompany the expedition, climbing with the team to a camp at 22,000 feet, and using a prearranged code to send news of the successful ascent, which was announced in The Times on the day of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation.
