The recipient of this book, Albert Mattei (1895-1969) was the president and CEO of Honolulu Oil Company and a close friend of President Hoover. They were both members of the exclusive Bohemian Club and were frequent fishing partners. Fishing for Fun was published shortly before Hoover's death in 1964, being a collection of essays and speeches given by the former President about his favorite pastime.

William E. Brougher (1889-1965) was commander of the 11th Division of the Philippine army, who unsuccessfully fought off a Japanese invasion in December, 1941. Brougher survived the Bataan Death March in 1942 and remained one of the highest ranking officers in Japanese captivity during World War II. In retirement he wrote his memoirs, titled South to Bataan, North to Mukden.

In publisher's original dust jacket, retail price of $4.50 on front flap, overall toning but front panel bright, chipping and tears along top/bottom edges with some loss. A nice example of the author's account of his years spent in Honduras and Nicaragua. Archie Carr (1909-1987) was an American herpetologist, ecologist and conservationist. He taught zoology at the University of Florida, and he was a leading authority on sea turtles. The Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge in Florida is named for him. This refuge protects the nesting sites of nearly one-fourth of all sea turtles in the United States.
