Zustand: as new. Amsterdam : KNAW, 2005. Hardcover. x,512 pp. 60 ills. (History of science and scholarship in the Netherlands, volume 7). Condition : new. - Simon Stevin (1548-1620) was one of the leading scholars of his time, developing theoretical innovations in mathematics and physics as well as practical innovations in civil engineering and military technology. Less well known is the project that Stevin worked on during the last twenty years of his life, a treatise on architecture and town planning. The earliest mention of Huysbou occurs in the first volume of Stevin's work on mathematics and other natural sciences, Wisconstighe Ghedachtenissen (Mathematical Memoirs), published in 1605. This study deals with Stevin's unfinished, and until now only partly revealed architectural treatise. But few people know about his interest in architecture, as documented in "De Huysbou, a project that occupied the last twenty years of Stevin's life. This new translation includes passages from Stevin's text, an extensive bibliography, and an in-depth analysis of Stevin's theories of urban planning within a larger European context. It will be a valuable resource for historians of Stevin's work, as well as those interested in Dutch and European architecture and urban planning. Condition : as new copy. ISBN 9789069844329. Keywords : ARCHITECTURE, Architecture, Architektur.

De Haag, K. Fuhri, 1851, in-folio, (37,5 cm), (4)nn pp (index) + 200 pp, with numerous wood cut illustrations in the text. Printed in three colums. . Bound in contemporary half leather, with boards covered with marbled papere. Bindin gwith some wear, interior fine. A good copy. Very rare contemporary report in Dutch, on the first World Exhibition (London 1851). The lay out and illustrations bear a striking resemblance to similar editions in English (e.g. the London Illustrated News). This edition in Dutch underlines the enormous impact of the Exhibition. Hardly any Dutch visitors would undertake the costly and complicated voyage to London; but there was a market for in depth information about the exhibition.
