Unbound. Zustand: Very Good Indeed. Not Stated (illustrator). First edition. A scarce signed edition of this report from Victorian polymath J F W Herschel. A very scarce first edition of this work from English mathematician, astronomer, chemist, inventor, experimental photographer and botanist Sir John Frederick William Herschel, who happens to have invented the blueprint. Herschel originated the use of the Julian day system in astronomy, made many contributions to the science of photography and investigated colour blindness and the chemical power of ultraviolet rays. This work contains Herschel's report for the 'Committee Appointed for the Reduction of Meteorological Observations', and contains two folding plates, one plate consisting of three graphs comparing observations taken in Dublin, London and Munich. Signed to the head of the front wrap with the inscription 'For the South African Philosophical and Literary Society with J. Herschel's respects'. Disbound, as issued. Signed to the head of title page. Firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good Indeed. signed by author. book.
