Trat 1809 als Unterarzt in den Militärdienst, stud. am Josephinum und legte, seit 1814 Oberarzt, 1816 die Prüfungen für den Dr.med. ab, wurde als solcher aber erst 1818 zugelassen, da ihm noch die vorgeschriebenen Dienstjahre fehlten. 1815/16 nahm er am Krieg gegen Frankreich teil und leitete 1816 ein Feldspital in Hagenau im Elsaß. Bis 1818 war er in Wien stationiert, dann in Preßburg, von wo sein Rgt. 1820 nach Italien abging. Nach Beendigung der Kämpfe blieb H. 1821-24 in Neapel, kam anschließend als Regimentsarzt nach Wien, 1825 nach Galizien, wo er neben verschiedenen kürzeren Verwendungen 1825-31 in Tarnów, 1832-34 in Stanislau und 1834-45 in Czernowitz Dienst tat. 1845 i.R. 1856 übersiedelte er nach Krakau. Schon früh sich der Botanik widmend, legte er ein umfangreiches Herbar an und versuchte eine Flora Galiziens zu schreiben. H., der auf zahlreichen Sammelreisen die meisten Teile des Landes, viele davon botan. noch gänzlich unerschlossen, insbesondere aber die Bukowina, deren erste Spezialflora er schrieb, kennenlernte, gehört zu den Begründern der Botanik Galiziens. - Durchgehend stockfleckig, unaufgeschnittenes Exemplar. Marbled endpapers. = A rare work on the geology and palaeontology of a part of Romania. Offprint, with new title and page-numbering, from the Mitteilungen des Jahrbuches der königliche Ungarische geolische Anstalt. The plates mainly show Mesozoic ammonites, uncluding some that seems to be new. Due to the quality of the paper the text is a bit browned, and a few leaves, including the title, have the edges reinforced with Japanese paper. Four contemporary handwritten sheets by a former owner (?) bound in at p. 52. Otherwise a very good, clean copy in an attractive binding.
