Cloth. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. Illus. With Photos (illustrator). 225 pages. Hardcover. Texts in English. Very slight tanning to the spine of the dustjacket from sunning with minimal shelfwear rubbing (though now encased in a Mylar sleeve). Else, the binding is tight, the shelfwear to the edges of the boards minimal, and interior clean and unmarked. 225 illustrations 45 plates in color. Bound in gray cloth, with darker gray stamping on spine and cover, and wrapped in an illustrated paper dustjacket. This monograph on the life and work of Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti by his friends and fellow Swiss artists Herbert and Mercedes Matter is a work of art in itself. The content and layout of the book is what is incredible. Minimal text relegated to the back of the book allows for a celebration of amazing photo-reproductions of this existentialist master's sculptures and paintings. 180 black and white and 45 color photographs, printed large on this oversize format book allow for a full appreciation of the art while occasional portraits and studio images give glimpses into the man. Foreword and introductions by fellow artists Andrew Forge and Louis Finkelstein add depth. Selected Bibliography. List of Illustrations. Book.

Hard Cover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. Illus. With Photos (illustrator). This is a fine hardcover copy with a very good dust jacket with a few scratches on the rear cover. Very light, even toning to front panel of dust jacket along spine edge. Completely clean. This book began as a collaboration between the Swiss artists and friends Alberto Giacometti and Herbert Matter. In the 1960's Matter first began to photograph Giacometti's sculptures in Paris. He continued doing this for years and both men looked forward to publication of this material. Matter continued working on it until his death in 1984. It finally happened a few years later, brought to fruition by Mercedes Matter. This book has a minimal text. It is mainly a record of Matter's photographs of Giacomettl's sculptures, which Giacometti himself said made him aware of qualities his sculptures possessed that he was unaware of. Illustrated throughout with Matter's photographs in black & white and some color: 225 illustrations, 45 plates in color. This book was also designed by Matter. 13" high X 10" wide, 224 pages. Large heavy book, foreign shipping will be extra. This book will be securely wrapped and packed in a sturdy box and shipped with tracking.
