The first Surveyor General of California actually born in that state (elected 1882 and 1884) was this civil engineer -- arguably the first Anglo American child BORN in the state of California! Some source cite John Gregg Nichols in 1851, the first Anglo American born in Los Angeles, but Willey precedes him. Large and bold "Your Sincere friend / Henry Ide Willey" on a 7" X 1" slip (likely clipped off an ALS), n.p., n.y. Near fine. Faintly age toned. A superb example of this most unusual and scarce signature.
