Vintage black-and-white double weight still photograph from the 1949 UK release of the 1948 French film. Distributor's rubber-stamp and notation on the verso. Based on a story by Ashelbe (Henri La Barthe), about a prostitute named Dedee (Simone Signoret) who works in a night club in Antwerp. She meets an Italian sailor and they fall in love, giving Dedee a new outlook on life. A film that would bring Signoret great popularity. A story set in Antwerp. 8 x 10 inches. Very Good plus, with light creasing overall.

Draft script for the 1937 French film. An English-language version of the text issued by the Hakim brothers for use in the US. James M. Cain and John Howard Lawson adapted the story for a US film version in 1938, titled "Algiers," directed by John Cromwell and starring Charles Boyer and Hedy Lamarr. A seminal noir antecedent, oddly produced by the French, who would go on to consider the Americans to be the inventors of the style. White titled wrappers. Title page present, with name of producers Robert and Raymond Hakim rubber-stamped at the bottom right corner. 150 leaves, mimeograph duplication. Remade in 1938 as "Algiers," starring Hedy Lamarr and Charles Boyer, and in 1948 as "Casbah," a film musical starring Tony Martin and Marta Toren. Notorious French criminal Pepe le Moko is safe from the police in the Casbah, but begins to reconsider his future in France after meeting, and falling for, a beautiful Parisian woman.
