Ripperger explores stories including unicorns from various cultures and time periods and illustrates them with images from removed from other works featuring the unicorn as part of coats of arms, in statuary, and medieval art. Helmut Ripperger had a storied career which began in the 1920s at the *Berlin Evening News*. He went on to work for Oxford University Press, University Books, and wrote several cookbooks.
