A charming small-scale work, showcasing Weissenborn's distinctive and vigorous style, which would make a useful (birthday?) gift for a wood-engraving enthusiast. Aufgewachsen in Martinwaldau (Szczytnica) arbeitete er vom Jahre 1949 an als Lehrer, zunächst in der Volksschule Heyweiler, später an der Hauptschule in Simmern / Hunsrück, wo er bis zu seinem Ruhestand 1989 wirkte. Von 1956 bis 1989 war er Vorstandsmitglied und 1. Vorsitzender des Schutzverbands Deutscher Schriftsteller in Rheinland-Pfalz, des Verbands deutscher Schriftsteller (VS) Rheinland-Pfalz und des Förderkreises deutscher Schriftsteller (FöK) Rheinland-Pfalz sowie über lange Jahre hinweg Redakteur der Zeitschrift Glaube und Heimat. Neben eigenen Büchern war er auch Herausgeber und Mitautor verschiedener Werke, veröffentlichte Texte und Gedichte in Anthologien und schrieb für den Südwestfunk Hörspiele und Fernsehfilme (Auszug aus Wikipedia). Hellmuth Weissenborn's Raven the Rascal was the third in a series of children's books published by The Acorn Press. It tells the story of Rascal, a young, exuberant, greedy raven who falls out of the nest, is found by a young lad, Peter, who tends to his needs as he plays havoc on the farm where he know lives, taunting the cat, eating the food etc. He meets a wise owl and then finds happiness with Beautiful Kaa and they end up living in an old fir tree. Beautifully written and illustrated by Weissenborn, a German-born graphic artist who came to Britain in 1938. He was interned for six months on the Isle of Man, and then taught at Ravensbourne College of Art, Kent, and worked out of a studio in London, and founded The Acorn Press with his wife. Condition: A scarce title but this copy in poor to fair condition. The spine is shattered revealing the mesh, and the corners heavily rubbed. The inner binding is strained but no pages are loose. The text and illustrations are in good condition and the book remains in decent readable condition with a little gentle handling.
